QotD

Pastor Dennis Terry introducing Rick Santorum.

“I don’t care what the liberals say, I don’t care what the naysayers say, this nation was founded as a Christian nation…There is only one God and his name is Jesus. I’m tired of people telling me that I can’t say those words.. Listen to me, If you don’t love America, If you don’t like the way we do things I have one thing to say – GET OUT. We don’t worship Buddha, we don’t worship Mohammad, we don’t worship Allah, we worship God, we worship God’s son Jesus Christ.”

If you swapped out “Jesus” for “Mohammad” and “God” for “Allah”, this wouldn’t look at all out of place in a Taliban introduction.

Rick Santorum 2012: if you don’t worship Christ, you aren’t welcome in America.

I’m thinking the difference would become apparent when the Taliban drew their scimitars and started lopping off heads.  I’d bet that’s over a line Santorum won’t cross.

Contemporary Christianity is a product of the Age of Enlightenment.  It’s about time we stopped trying to equate it with brutal medieval and stone-age religious practices.

Yeah, we’ll get right on that soon as the “Enlightened” Christians stop telling people how to live their lives as if they have the moral authority to do so.

There are other ways to kill people’s lives, or people themselves, than physically lopping off heads.

  3. Christians are perfectly within their rights to tell others how to live their lives — that’s what the first amendment is for.

Muslims, however, believe the first amendment violates their religion.  The separation of church and state is against the teachings of Islam.

Yet you give the two moral equivalence. At your own peril, if you ask me.  Amoral liberal atheists are the first ones the Taliban would round up.

Oh, really?  Then so is every other religion.  You cannot exempt other religions from the First Amendment.  That means the Wiccan coven down the street has every right to tell people about the evils of Christianity and demand people turn to Wicca to save themselves (of course, Wiccans wouldn’t ever do that because that’s not what their faith is about).

BTW, Christianity is one of those “Brutal medieval stone-age religious practices” too and it’s not as enlightened as you think.

“Muslims, however, believe the first amendment violates their religion.

Extremist Muslims believe it, I doubt all Muslims do.  Fact, I’m pretty sure there are a LOT of Muslims out there who actually LIKE the separation of Church and State.

Thankfully I’m not liberal or atheist.  And honestly, I think the Christians would be the first ones rounded up by the Taliban.  That being said, the US is doing a good job of turning parts of itself into a Christian version of the Taliban.

The extremists of ANY religion, or Atheist, are, IMO, a plague on the world and to humanity in general and the sooner we get rid of them all, the better off the world would be.  Christian, Muslim, Atheist; you do violence to spread your “Word of Belief/NonBelief”, then you should be dealt with.

  4. “Oh, really?  Then so is every other religion.”

This is true, except that Christianity has majority status here and is therefore the target of people who fear “offending” people of other religions. And I’m always fascinated by how atheists are “offended” by Christianity, as if grownups would be offended by children who believe in the tooth fairy?

“BTW, Christianity is one of those “Brutal medieval stone-age religious practices” too and it’s not as enlightened as you think.”

I did not say it’s enlightened. I said that as a product of the Age of Enlightenment, modern Christianity is about morality and faith rather than coercion.  They don’t cut off heads or burn witches at the stake.  I could puke when I hear morons compare Christians to the Taliban.
