Al Sharpton arrested?

May 8, 2008 · 2 Comments

Well HERE’s something likely to get the ol’ protests quieted down.

So there was an entirely reasonable backlash after the police who shot an unarmed black man over fifty times were completely acquitted for what they did. You can say what you will about the case itself, but the fact that Al Sharpton was arrested isn’t going to be what you might call “helpful”.

The Rev. Al Sharpton was among dozens arrested Wednesday as demonstrators blocked traffic at the height of the evening rush hour to protest the acquittal of three detectives in the 50-bullet shooting of an unarmed black man on his wedding day.

Police estimated that about 190 people were arrested, including Sharpton, two survivors of the shooting and the slain man’s fiancee. They lined up and put their hands behind their backs as police arrested them on disorderly conduct charges.

Hanlon’s prediction? Our Faux News viewing and EIB listening friends will take this as another opportunity to play “crazy black man” against Sharpton. Then, at some point, they’ll say he’s racist, but they really aren’t.

Have to disagree with you. Getting arrested does help Al Sharpton – at least among his own followers and supporters. Being arrested is a rite of passage for black males anyway so don’t feel sorry for Sharpton.

It helps in other ways, too. As long as he can keep his name out there and show his contempt for law enforcement Sharpton gathers more support from blacks. And he’ll actually feel empowered by this to speak out more and to speak out louder. It’s a lose-lose situation for the rest of society, but Sharpton wins with his arrest.

Oh I can agree from that perspective, I just meant from the perspective of those arresting him.

They want to quiet the protests and activism, so they arrest Al Sharpton. REAL smart, that.
