Now that the primaries are closing up, I can get a good hearty laugh at the latest of Rush’s idiocy. He recently advocated Republicans to vote for Hillary in Texas, apparently just to sabotage things for Obama.
I don’t know if the audience is mobilizing or not. I am urging people — I am using a phrase — the Republicans — our nominee is chosen. It’s John McCain.
Texas is open. And I want Hillary to stay in this, Laura. This is too good a soap opera. We need Barack Obama bloodied up politically, and it’s obvious that the Republicans are not going to do it and don’t have the stomach for it.
So basically, since McCain has it locked up, Rush wants everyone to cross the line simply to screw it up for Obama. Okay.
Let’s unpack that for a moment. Rush has apparently resigned himself to the fact that McCain is going to get the nod, no matter how much he protests (or apparently because of his “help”, as he claimed previously).

I avoided writing about this because it makes my blood boil. A video circulated on the internet of a marine throwing a puppy off of a cliff, a video which I will not describe in any more detail nor will I link to. Trust me, you don’t want to see it, just so the part of your brain that can deny it actually happened is not permanently squashed.
Anyway, in a rare instance of me being elated by the media’s response to something, CNN picked up on it, and the guy’s been identified.
If the video is deemed legitimate, the lance corporal could face a charge of conduct unbecoming a Marine, Perrine said. There could be administrative action, nonjudicial punishment or a court-martial, he added.
“It’s all governed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and anything from reduction in pay to reduction in rank to confinement to discharge from the Marine Corps” is possible, Perrine said. If others are involved, they too will be disciplined, he said.
“Certainly, there’s a lot of outrage, and a lot of people are upset about it. I think every Marine is upset about this video,” he said. “We hope that it turns out not to be what it looks like.”
Now I know what you might be thinking: But Hanlon, they aren’t all like that! Of course they aren’t. But this one was, and that brings me to my next question I’ll answer before you ask: why do you care so much about a puppy? What about the millions dead or displaced?
Obviously I care about them as well, but consider the blatant cruelty needed in order to do something like that. It’s possible to delude oneself into thinking that those civilians are potential terrorists, but how coldhearted would a man have to be in order to commit such a callous act to an innocent animal?
In many ways, this offers a glimpse into the wrong attitude many of those entrusted in protecting us and representing us may have. And it tells us that if there is even a small handful who’ll do that to a dog, what might they do to people they believe are dangerous terrorists?
Or maybe I’m reading too far into it.
