Hanlon’s Razor

Barack Obama campaign plagued with scandals, say anonymous tipsters at the Clinton campaign

February 20, 2008 · 57 Comments

Hanlon WRONG!The scandals surrounding the Obama campaign are growing even more, as new accusations of plagiarism have surfaced. According to an anonymous tipster from the Clinton campaign, Obama has outright stolen his campaign slogan. The tipster said that the slogan, “Yes we can,” was lifted directly from Bob the Builder, a British construction worker who coined the phrase in 1999. Worse yet, that slogan was originally coined in Spanish as “Si se puede” by Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta in 1974. Chavez and Huerta are Spanish-sounding names, leading us to believe that Obama supports illegal immigration.

These allegations of plagiarism come after previous allegations that Obama stole material from former governor Duval Patrick of Massachusetts. Anonymous tipsters at the Clinton campaign have charged that Obama committed grievous intellectual fraud in taking material originally used by Patrick. Patrick, a long-time ally to the Obama campaign, has defended Obama from these allegations and said, “It’s an elaborate charge and kind of an extravagant one. It’s not like he’s writing a law review article or a book or something like that.” Despite this weak defense from Obama sympathizer Duval Patrick, it seems clear that Barack Obama has stolen intellectual property from Duval Patrick.

Besides allegations of plagiarism, less than a year ago Obama’s extensive criminal record came out. The presidential candidate finally paid off $400 in parking tickets to Harvard University a full 17 years after they were issued. Unfortunately, while felons can’t vote, they can still run for office.

Finally, while there is absolutely no evidence to back this up and all accounts from Obama’s friends, colleagues, and his autobiography say otherwise, we would like to again reiterate the tip given to us from anonymous sources at the Clinton campaign that Barack Obama might be a sleeper Islamist terrorist agent who attended a madrassa and became Muslim-brainwashed when he was a child. Also, his first name sounds like Iraq, his middle name is the same as Saddam Hussein’s last name, and his last name sounds like Osama. Boogity boogity boo.

Ok now, give me the punch line! This isn’t really a serious post, is it? Because if you’re for real, then you need to have your razor sharpened, Hanlon! Who are these dastardly Clinton sources spewing all this muck? Sounds so desperate – I mean, hey, parking tickets are a great big no-no. I certainly wouldn’t want my president to have parking tickets. And heck, aren’t all Muslims baaaad? Of course we all know this. Made my day. Priceless!

  • Hanlon // February 20, 2008 at 3:35 pm

He stole from Bob the Builder, MAW. Bob the Builder.

That’s just unforgivable, and frankly it makes me wonder about what kind of leader this man could be to be lifting lines from foreign icons. Which his to say nothing of his criminal record.

It’s a harrowing litany, and it makes me worry if he’ll start taking lines from Mein Kampf next.

This is so much bullshit. Please, nobody cares, come up with something factual to write about that people care about How about something important.

The fact that 2 people have said the same phrase, or one person is using a phrase that someone else may have said? Wow…I wonder if people say the same things in english!

Or I suppose I must be supporting something if someone else has typed the second before this somewhere before?

    Please. Tinfoil hats off.

Could you be anymore ignorant? Sounds like terrorist names? This is wholly insignificant and quite possibly misinformed. If you want me to be, I’m from the Clinton campaign, and Obama is the devil. Don’t trust him. Ugh

I agree with “That Guy”. This is so obviously a joke. I really don’t know how anyone reading it could take it seriously. I support Obama and plan to vote for him and I thought this was pretty funny.

  • The Pedro // February 20, 2008 at 6:15 pm

I cant believe people actually are taking this article seriously. The outright attacks against (very minor) details of Obama’s character are obviously exaggerated and not at all to be taken seriously. How can someone actually take the name game at the end and the “Criminal Record” seriously? This was a pretty funny article, but it pointing out more about how low the Clinton Campaign is stooping to keep voters and delegates on their side (They obviously are not as low as what is shown here, but they are attacking Obama, while he has not run a single negative ad against Clinton)

  • Hendrix // February 20, 2008 at 6:16 pm

Bravo! Not only was this article very humorous, the writer managed to fool many people into thinking it was anything but satire. It seems many Obama supporters need to stop being so defensive and lighten up a little bit.. what have politics done to my fellow Americans? Oh yeah.. it got many of them killed fighting never ending wars. As you were.

  • ilikeflowers // February 20, 2008 at 6:27 pm

I’m stunned at all the posters who don’t realize that this is supposed to be humorous. Hopefully some of them are actually just playing along and don’t want to break character.

I guess you have to have actually watched “Bob the Builder” (Nick Jr.) to get the joke.
I can hear the singing now (although it’s just in my head… maybe…
    Crowd: “Ba-RACK O-Bam-MA!”
    Barack: “Can we Build it?”
    Crowd: “YES WE CAN!”
Barack: “Whose going PAY for it?”
    Sheep: “Someone ELSE!”
(cue 2nd proud moment for Michele Obama. possible close-up of single tear.)

  • James // February 20, 2008 at 7:26 pm

I hate to point this out to the sheep but there more important things then “charisma” and “eloquence”

His voting record and stances on the issues are appalling.

Anonymous tipster? Is this more of Hilary Clinton attempt to selectively compartmentalize her campaigning messages? It’s two for one when it comes to her husband, yet if he makes a negative comment about Barack then it was him speaking for himself? Pick ONE stance and stick with it, Hilary. Oh, and don’t be surprised if you find yourself voted off the Presidential island because you indulged in mudslinging. I might also suggest that you choose your words carefully as you have set your own standard for where you get you material.

Unfortunately, the impression I get from the Clinton campaign is that we can expect more of this cr*p. The Clintons have managed to keep their Teflon Don status when it comes to scandal. This will probably make them bolder when it comes to going after what they really want. I bet we are going to see a powergrab that even the Bush/Cheney machine can only dream about.

  • brittany // February 21, 2008 at 9:18 am

I just want to make it perfectly clear that I actually said the phrase, “yes we can” nearly 10 years before either Bob or Barack. If there is any plagiarism happening here (or any royalties to be collected), then I ought to be the one notified.

Any use of the phrase in question in the future should be duly cited.

    Thank you.

Obama’s little bit of plagiarism is not that big a deal. What is a big deal are the outrageous remarks that he and his wife say. Like you must vote for me after having a religious experience. We can fix your broken souls?? No cynicism allowed by the Obamas. In additions his friend Rev. Wright and agreeing with this radical. Being a old friend of weatherman terrorist Ayers!! And on and on.
