Hanlon’s Razor

A quick thought on Ron Paul’s lack of media coverage

January 17, 2008 · 4 Comments

Thinking…I’ve said it already and others have certainly made the argument that Ron Paul’s rather impressive support in the various primaries means he should be considered a “top tier” candidate and not fringe. He’s beaten either Rudy Giuliani or Fred Thompson (or both) in every vote that’s happened thus far, raised millions and has a fanatical fanbase, so why hasn’t he gotten picked up?

To answer that, I think we should look over on the other side of things. Ron Paul lands either fourth or fifth in the GOP primaries and caucuses (cauci?). Can you name the 4th and 5th place Democratic candidates off the top of your head? Don’t look it up, but see if you can answer that without simply naming a random “not Edwards, Clinton, or Obama” Democrat.

Give up? It’s Bill Richardson, who has since dropped out. Prior to that, did you see him getting much airtime or coverage?

That’s my point. The questions shouldn’t be why Paul isn’t getting covered, but why Thompson and Giuliani are.

That is the first part of most peoples question is why are they getting coverage and it is than asked if they are why not Ron Paul?

I have also asked why are all the third party and independent candidates not getting coverage?

This is not a time where there is limited time, space and resources. There is 24-7 tv news and electronic newspapers and internet. There is NO reason that all the candidates do not get fair and equal time!

To an extent, perhaps. But how far does that extend? Does every single candidate get equal airtime always? Even a guy getting 1% or less in the polls? How about a candidate gunning for the nomination whose views are so far out that there is literally no chance of victory (a republican who wants theocratic rule, a democrat gunning for abolition of religion and all drugs legalized, etc)?

There does need to be a limit, particularly as the race wears on. Can you really say we should have every third-party candidate at the debates?

Bring the politics, and everything else. Never censored…

Since when does the media decide who is, or is not, a worthy presidential candidate? Who is pulling these Media strings? Why is it that all media outlets think and act like it is not blatantly obvious the way this whole election has been unfairly covered? Not just CNN, but ALL channels of distribution of information in this state of idiocracy! It’s a disgrace to this country.. Ron Paul gets 3% of media coverage in Florida which results in 3% of the vote. Ron Paul is the only candidate speaking with any intelligence on the Republican platform and when Huckabee drops out it will be down to 3. Are you, the media, going to continue to leave Ron Paul out? This isn’t American Idol, this is for the President of the United States! Everyone wants to relate themselves with Ronald Reagan, and Ron Paul is the only candidate that was ever endorsed by President Reagan himself! Ron Paul was on Reagan’s campaign.. but no.. that’s not a speaking point worthy of coverage, but Guiliani dropping out and McCain and Romney arguing about nothing is! WTF!!! I’m going to throw up now and pack my bags to leave this, what was once a free and fair country! FU mass media!
