Bush’s job approval rating fell to 24 percent from last month’s record low for a Zogby poll of 29 percent. A paltry 11 percent gave Congress a positive grade, tying last month’s record low.

Let’s call this a plea for sanity, a plea for mercy, whatever. I was right on board with the destruction of Larry Craig initially, and spent quite some time debating the issue with my conservative friends. The thing that was brought up most was why the left was railing against Craig if we’re supposedly so pro-gay.
The rebuttal to that claim was that it wasn’t his sexuality, it was the hypocrisy between his sexuality and how he legislated while in the Senate. The fact that he voted against the hate crime legislation seemed to reinforce that he was using his position to keep his orientation under wraps. That and it’s just plain creepy to be soliciting sex in an airport bathroom no matter what your inclinations are. The scandal would have been big even had he been caught trolling for sex with a woman.
Now he won’t resign and naturally he’s in the news every day nonstop. I’m currently watching Countdown as I type this and he did his obligatory bit about the guy. What got to me was when he brought up the “Alberto Gonzales defense” when referring to the police interview with the Senator, specifically this part:
OFFICER: Okay, And then with the hand. Um, how many times did you put your hand under the stall?
CRAIG: I don’t recall. I remember reaching down once. There was a piece of toilet paper back behind me and picking it up.
OFFICER: Okay. Was your was your palm down or up when you were doing that?
CRAIG: I don’t recall
This was then mocked due to the repetition of “I don’t recall.” And this is where my beef with the scandal rears its ugly head.
